The McKinsey AI survey

That’s a pretty damning number. It comes from McKinsey & Company’s State of AI 2026 survey. It suggests people are enjoying personal productivity gainsRobert Solow said in 1987: “You can see the computer age everywhere but in the productivity statistics.” This changed once work was redesigned around the machines, but those gains are not translating into organisation-wide financial gains for the vast majority94% according to McKinsey.

Productivity versus value

That’s the gap. Helping people become more productive with AI is one challenge; helping organisations see financial impact from AI is a very different one.
